What does a tax preparer do?

In our last post, we talked about what a bookkeeper does: they keep your transactions organized, figure out what the transactions are for and provide financial summaries to small business owners. Bookkeepers do not do taxes and tax preparers do not do bookkeeping; however, bookkeeping or at a very minimum, providing an accurate summary of a year's worth of transaction is 100% necessary for tax.

So then, what does a tax preparer do?

A tax preparer is the master of paperwork. They sort through a seemingly endless files of forms, receipts, and records to make sure every penny is accounted for. They're like the Hermione Granger of the tax world - if there's a form that needs filling out, they've already got it memorized!

But it's not all just filling out forms and sending them off to the IRS. A tax preparer also has to be a bit of a therapist. Let's face it, taxes can be stressful! They listen to their clients' concerns and answer all their tax-related questions. They're like a tax guru, but instead of meditation and yoga, they prescribe deductions and credits.

A tax preparer is the master of all things tax-related. They keep up with the latest tax laws and regulations, so their clients don't have to. They know all the tax deductions and credits that can save their clients money, and they make sure their clients don't miss any important deadlines.

And let's not forget about the most important part of a tax preparer's job: making sure you don't get audited! They know all the ins and outs of tax law and can help you avoid red flags that might trigger an audit. It's like having a personal IRS whisperer.

But let's be real - the real reason we hire tax preparers is so we don't have to do our own taxes. And who can blame us? Luckily, tax preparers are up for the challenge. They don't mind sorting through all the paperwork and deciphering all the confusing tax jargon.
