It's important to understand that while the information you share during the tax return preparation interview is confidential, it is not immune from IRS scrutiny. Communication protected by privilege (meaning it cannot be compelled by the IRS for testimony) is confined to non-criminal tax advice pertaining to IRS matters or non-criminal tax proceedings in federal courts. While we treat all information you provide as confidential, it's important to note that the advisor-client privilege does not cover tax return preparation engagements.
